Ceramic Heaters -- 4 Models
A ceramic heater is a space heater that generates heat using a heating element of ceramic with a positive temperature coefficient (PTC). Ceramic heaters are usually portable, typically used for heating a room or small office, and are of similar utility to metal-element fan heaters.
PTC ceramic material is semi-conductive: when voltage is applied, its power output falls quickly once it reaches a certain temperature, according to the composition of the ceramic. The ceramic elements sit in contact with aluminium fins, which they heat, and a fan blows air across the fins. Resistance-wire elements do not become self-regulating; ceramic, by contrast, sharply increases its resistance at around 120 degrees Celsius and stays below 200 degrees Celsius.

Three Things That Make These Heaters Different
Why Choose a Ceramic Heater?
A ceramic heater uses a PTC element whose resistance climbs sharply as it warms, so it throttles its own power instead of running away. Combine that with a fan and you get a heater that reaches full output in seconds and cannot, by design, overheat the way a bare resistance wire can.
Six reasons ceramic is the safe default
Where it honestly loses
Head to head
| Ceramic / PTC | Oil-filled radiator | |
|---|---|---|
| Heating method | PTC element plus forced convection | Sealed oil reservoir, gentle convection |
| Time to warm air | Seconds | 10–20 minutes |
| Heat after switch-off | None | Fins keep radiating for a while |
| Noise | 40–65 dB, fan audible | Silent |
| Typical weight | Around 3 kg | Over 10 kg |
| Fan required | Yes | No |
| Air quality | Moves dust, lowers relative humidity | Still air, no drying effect |
| Best used for | Fast top-up heat in one room | All-night background heat |
So which one should you choose?
Choose a ceramic heater if…
- You need the room warm now, not in twenty minutes
- The heater gets moved between rooms or taken on site visits
- You want the lowest possible fire risk from the heating element itself
- A modest amount of fan noise is acceptable
Choose an oil-filled radiator if…
- The heater runs all night and noise actually matters
- You want the room still warm an hour after the thermostat clicks off
- Dust or dry air is a problem in the space
- The unit will sit in one place for the season
What that means for your order book
Ceramic is the volume product of the electric portable category. It is cheap to tool, cheap to ship, and it is the heater a first-time buyer picks because it warms up before they have finished unboxing it. The specification decisions that decide whether it sells are almost all safety decisions: the PTC grade, the tip-over switch, the thermal cut-out and the cool-touch housing. Our ceramic line covers four models, with the CE / LVD / EMC / RoHS / ERP marks and OEM colour, logo and packaging from 30 to 45 days.
PTC self-regulation behaviour and the 140–250°C element range follow the Wikipedia entry on self-regulating heaters. Noise, humidity and warm-up comparisons are drawn from published manufacturer and retailer test notes for the ceramic and oil-filled categories. Confirm the specification of the exact model before quoting.
