Outdoor Patio Heaters -- 12 Models

A patio heater, also called a mushroom heater or umbrella heater, is a radiant heating appliance that generates thermal radiation for outdoor use. A burner on top of a pole burns natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, propane or butane and directs the flames against a perforated metal screen, which radiates heat in a circular pattern.

A reflector above the burner sends back heat that would otherwise be lost upwards - the hood is usually silvered, which makes it a poor absorber of heat but excellent at reflecting infrared radiation. Some newer types are electrically powered radiative heaters that emit infrared energy onto nearby surfaces, which in turn warm the surrounding air. Wall-mounted, hanging and tabletop versions are also common in hospitality settings.

Why Choose

Three Things That Make These Heaters Different

Weather-resistant housing

Anti-corrosion powder-coated steel and aluminium reflector for outdoor use.

Tip-over and flame-failure cut-off

Weighted base and anti-tip sensor stop gas flow if the unit falls.

Hospitality-grade output

12 kW to 14 kW peak suitable for 30 m^2 restaurant terraces and garden parties.

Outdoor vs Indoor Heating

Why Choose an Outdoor Patio Heater?

Outdoors, convection is a losing game — the air you warm leaves before anyone feels it. A patio heater does not try. It radiates straight at the people, the tables and the paving, which is what makes an open terrace usable in November.

Six reasons terraces are heated by radiation

It heats people, not the air

Infrared travels directly to people, furniture and paving instead of trying to warm moving air, which is exactly why it still works on an open terrace where convection is useless.

No wiring, no installation

A propane unit needs a cylinder and nothing else. ANSI Z21.97 covers free-standing outdoor heaters with an integral cylinder of up to 20 lb.

Real output for open space

Full-size mushroom and square column units run at 40,000–50,000 BTU/h, about 11.7–14.7 kW — several times the output of a domestic electric patio heater.

Eight to ten hours per cylinder

A standard 20 lb propane cylinder gives roughly 8–10 hours on the high setting and 12–15 hours on low, which covers a full evening service.

Warmth the moment it lights

Electric infrared reaches full power in 15–30 seconds and gas lights instantly, so a terrace can be reopened as soon as the temperature drops rather than an hour later.

Easy to plan a venue

Commercial layouts are specified at roughly one 46,000–50,000 BTU/h heater per 600–800 sq ft, so a 50 ft by 50 ft terrace needs three to four units.

Where it honestly loses

Wind takes the radius away

A unit may be quoted as covering 12–20 ft, but the comfortable working radius is closer to 7 ft, and a 10 mph gust cuts the effective radius by roughly 40%.

Outdoors or fully ventilated only

Gas patio heaters produce carbon monoxide and must never be used inside a tent or an enclosed space — use electric infrared there. NFPA 58 also restricts indoor propane storage, and many municipalities require a fire permit before commercial terrace heating is installed.

So which one should you choose?

Choose a gas patio heater if…

  • The terrace, beer garden or event space is open to the sky
  • You cannot run cables to where the guests are actually sitting
  • You need 10 kW and up at each position
  • It will be used outdoors, or under a canopy with the sides open

Choose an electric patio heater if…

  • The heater has to sit under a closed canopy, marquee or awning
  • There is a power supply and you would rather not handle cylinders
  • The venue does not permit open flame
  • You need a small, low-maintenance unit for a balcony

What that means for your order book

Patio heating is bought by hospitality, not by households. The decision-maker is a restaurant, bar or hotel owner extending outdoor covers into the shoulder season, and the maths they run is covers per heater per evening — which is why the specification conversation is about heat output, effective radius in wind, cylinder runtime and how the unit looks on the terrace. Square-column and stainless mushroom models take the premium positions; smaller tabletop and electric units take the balcony and covered-terrace end. Our outdoor patio line covers 12 models, with CE / EN 14543 / ANSI Z21.97 conformity and OEM colour, logo and packaging from 30 to 45 days.

Output, radius, cylinder-runtime and wind data follow published propane patio heater specifications and commercial venue planning guidance. Clearance and storage rules are from NFPA 58; standard references are to EN 14543 and ANSI Z21.97 / CSA 2.41. Confirm the specification of the exact model before quoting.

Wholesale

Wholesale Outdoor Patio Heaters from a China Factory

FirstSight manufactures outdoor patio heaters for importers, retailers and hospitality programmes. Our 12 models cover 11 kW hexagonal units through to 14 kW stainless steel gas patio heaters for outdoor dining, so you can stock an umbrella patio heater for a garden alongside a square gas patio heater with wheels and regulator from a single supplier. Every unit is a propane patio heater built for sustained outdoor use: a stainless steel burner and a wide reflector throw heat down and outward in a full circle, which is what makes a gas patio heater effective on an open terrace where an electric infrared heater would lose its heat to the wind.

As an outdoor patio heater supplier in China we build to your market - CE and UKCA options, and your own logo, housing colour, packaging and carton artwork. Safety is engineered in: every heater carries a tip-over switch, an oxygen depletion sensor and a flame failure device that cuts the gas if the wind blows the flame out, and the cylinder base houses a standard 20 lb propane tank completely out of sight behind a side door. A patio heater with wheels and a weather-resistant finish moves easily between a terrace, a beer garden and a restaurant courtyard.

Wholesale pricing starts at low MOQ, with samples in 7-10 days and production in 30-45 days. Whether you need a 14 kW stainless steel gas patio heater for outdoor dining, an 11 kW hexagonal gas patio heater for a restaurant terrace, or an umbrella outdoor gas heater with piezo ignition for a retail programme, our engineering team can return a prototype to your specification within 7-10 days. Our patio heaters are CE and CSA certified and can ship as a single SKU serving both European and North American programmes.
