PTC Fan Heater 14 PTC Ceramic Models
A PTC fan heater uses a positive-temperature-coefficient ceramic element instead of a wire element. Its resistance rises as it heats, so it self-limits: the element stops drawing more power once it reaches its design temperature, and it does not glow. 14 of the 25 fan heater models we build use a PTC element.
The practical consequences are the reasons buyers specify PTC. Because the element is self-limiting, the heater holds most of its output as the airflow slows or the grille is partly covered, and the surface temperature stays below the point where dust burns — the source of the smell that wire-element heaters develop. On our range the PTC element appears across the whole span from the 0.60 kg FS-11A at 500 / 600 W up to the 2.30 kg FS-3000 at 1,000 W / 3,000 W.
Every PTC model here also carries overheat protection, and the FS-906, FS-908 add a tip-over switch and an internal safety fuse. The range runs from the FS-11A at 0.60 kg loading 21,996 pcs per 40HQ up to the FS-3000 at 2.30 kg and 4,440 pcs.

Where PTC Elements Are Specified
PTC is chosen for the three properties a wire element does not have.
Unattended and overnight use
A self-limiting element does not glow and does not overheat if the airflow is restricted, which is why PTC units are specified for bedrooms and for timer operation.
Rooms where smell matters
Because the element surface stays below the dust-burning point, PTC heaters do not produce the burnt-dust smell that wire elements can develop in a dusty room.
Products that must hold output
PTC holds its power as it warms instead of falling away, so the rated output on the label is closer to what the user feels after ten minutes of running.
